What is a Charcuterie Board?
Traditionally, charcuterie is a display of cured meats. They have gained popularity in recent years and now include meats, cheeses, and accompaniments such as fruit, olives, nuts, spreads, etc.
When it comes to entertaining, a charcuterie board is a must-have for hosts—and a fan favorite of guests—for good reason! While "charcuterie" technically means a range of different cured meats, these platters go beyond salami and prosciutto, typically featuring various cheeses, crackers, spreads and produce.
But what exactly makes them so popular? For starters, they're extremely flexible: You can adjust the ingredients for different preferences, scale the portions up or down based on the number of guests, and make them as affordable (or high-end) as you'd like. You can even tie them to a certain theme, like a color, geographic region or season.
Ideas and “recipes” for how to display different foods on charcuterie boards are easy to find online, with lots of images, videos of “how to” arrange and “decorate” your unique charcuterie board.
Charcuterie Boards are often used for decorative purposes such as centerpieces, wall hangings (especially in the kitchen, and holiday displays. Again, endless ideas are on the internet.
These make wonderful gifts: weddings, new home, Christmas, birthdays, etc.
